Landscape Designer in Paradise Point

Canal and Broadwater homes deserve outdoor spaces that match. We’ll help you plan yours with confidence — so nothing gets lost between the design and the build.

DESIGNING FOR PARADISE POINT

What Shapes Your Paradise Point Design

Paradise Point’s canal and Broadwater lots bring salt, water and low-lying soils into every garden decision. Here’s what we look at when designing for properties in this area.

LOCATION

52%

Separate houses · Paradise Point

Around half of homes are separate houses, with townhouses and apartments making up the rest. Canal-front, Broadwater-facing and inland lots all behave differently, so the design starts from your site and its exposure, not the suburb average.

SOIL & DRAINAGE

Wet

Poorly drained Hydrosol soils

Low-lying estuarine soils with a gleyed subsoil that drains slowly, and mapping flags a probability of acid sulfate soils on disturbed land. Species choice, bed levels and drainage need resolving early, before anything is dug or planted.

COUNCIL OVERLAYS

Waterfront

Development control area · flood assessment

Canal and Broadwater frontages fall inside the waterfront development control area, waterways mapping covers the canal network, and low-lying lots are flagged for flood assessment. Worth checking before any earthworks or structures near the water.

CLIMATE

1,302mm

Annual rainfall · 25°C avg max · 67% humidity

Subtropical — 94 rain days per year. The suburb sits within 0.5–1.5km of open water, so canal lots take direct salt exposure while inland streets see a moderate load. The annual mean minimum is 17°C, with no frost risk.

Common Questions About Landscape Design in Paradise Point

How much does landscape design cost in Paradise Point?

Fixed-fee packages: Landscape Plan $2,200, Landscape Concept Plan $4,600, and Landscape Masterplan $7,800, all inc GST. Those figures are fixed for a standard suburban block, front and back designed together — acreage, commercial and multi-unit projects are quoted individually. The right package depends on how much of the layout still needs designing. See our full packages or read our cost guide.

What’s the difference between a landscaper and a landscape designer?

A landscaper builds — they install gardens, paving, retaining walls, and irrigation. A landscape designer plans — we create the design, select species, resolve the layout, and produce the plans your landscaper builds from. Think architect vs builder. Most homeowners need both, in that order.

Do I need a landscape plan for my Paradise Point property?

If your property faces a canal or the Broadwater, a plan is worth it. The soils here are poorly drained with a mapped acid sulfate probability, waterfront lots sit inside the City Plan’s waterfront development control area, low-lying lots are flagged for flood assessment, and canal frontages take direct salt. A plan resolves levels, drainage and plant selection on paper, so your landscaper quotes on a design that suits the site.

How long does the design process take?

A Landscape Plan takes 5–7 business days. A Landscape Concept Plan runs around 2 weeks from workshop to final presentation. A Landscape Masterplan is around 4 weeks. Timelines depend on revision rounds and your availability for the initial workshop.

Can you recommend landscapers to build the design?

Yes — from concept to contractor. We work with a network of trusted Gold Coast landscapers and can connect you with the right builder for your project. Your design gives them a clear scope to quote from, so you can compare quotes confidently.

What plants handle Paradise Point’s salt and wet soils?

Waterfront lots need plants that cope with both salt and wet feet. Large Mat Rush (Lomandra hystrix) and Swamp Lily handle both; Broad-leaf Lilly Pilly, Weeping Bottlebrush and Snow-in-Summer suit the heavier, wetter ground. On the most exposed frontages, Tuckeroo and Coastal Rosemary ‘Zena’ stand up to salt wind but want better drainage, so they go on higher or mounded beds.
